Cost of recommended diets in Rwanda using [near] real-time market data

The Ukraine crisis threatens to increase food, fertiliser, and fuel prices globally (FAO, 2022; Osendrap et al. 2022). The consequences of this are an expected wave of malnourishment in low and lower- middle incomes countries. The FAO (2022) predict that up to 13 million more people, in 2022-23, could become malnourished as a direct consequence of the conflict. In Rwanda, the crisis is expected to have notable inflationary impacts upon the economy (IMF, 2022). The effects of this are likely to similar impacts as global trends, with increased food prices and malnourishment. More concretely, the crisis could further manifest itself in changes to dietary choices and consumption patterns.
