Disease incidence under BBTD management and insecticide treatment

Banana bunchy top disease (BBTD) is a serious threat to banana and plantain (Musa spp.) production. A field experiment was planted in Mengama on September 2016. Five Musa cultivars (PITA 21, Waema, Williams, FHIA 21 and Asung Mbele) and 3 treatments ; T1: Control, T2: Chicken manure (1 kg) + potassium chloride (100g), T3: Chicken manure (1 kg) + potassium chloride (100g) + Insecticide treatment (2.5g) of Counter 10G (terbufos) were tested. Spreaders plants (known infected BBTV plants) were planted between each 4 plants in the fieldto ensure BBTV infection. Data were collected at monthly basis on aphid abundance, BBTD incidence; this study provides an insight on the effect of insecticide on BBTD.
