Farmer's training on seedling and food production

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), under the Food Frontiers and Security Science Program (FFSSP), has been at the forefront of delivering safe, nutritious, and climate-resilient urban food production. This has been through promoting the use of clean planting materials, that is, the use of tray vegetable seedlings. By organizing demonstrations and field days through partner institutes, IITA trains farmers on the benefits of using tray seedlings for improved crop establishment, efficiency, and productivity. The initiative also extends outreach to students in secondary and tertiary institutions, exposing young learners to modern agricultural technologies. This early awareness aims to inspire a mindset shift, encouraging the next generation of farmers and professionals to embrace innovative, climate-smart practices that strengthen food production systems.
