GEOSPATIAL CHARACTERIZATION OF VEGETATIVELY PROPAGATED CROPS VARIETIES AND PRICING BY GENDER IN MARKET HUBS IN CROSS RIVER AND OYO STATES, NIGERIA

The SeEDEQUAL Initiative is an integral part of Genetic Innovation in the One CGIAR Action Area. It is intended for a better CG/NARS breeding impact by focusing on delivering genetic gain of crops in farmers’ fields and an enhanced varietal turnover through formal and farmer-based seed delivery channels. Work package 3 of the initiative is geared towards scaling and delivery of planting materials of vegetatively propagated crops. As part of the prioritized activities geotargeted for Nigeria, the study investigated the geospatial characterization and pricing of vegetatively propagated crops (VPCs) in market hubs   in Cross River and Oyo States of Nigeria. Additionally, the study identified the roles played by informal seed system actors in promoting the development of formal seed systems and examined how gender influences the participation and the pricing of VPCs seeds in targeted States.
