Banana pest and disease survey Cameroon 2012

A survey of banana pests and diseases conducted in 2012 across 91 locations in the South and Centre regions revealed that Banana Bunchy Top Disease had a limited distribution, being detected in only three farms, all located in the South region. However, its vector, the banana aphid Pentalonia nigronervosa, was found in all surveyed locations, indicating a high potential risk for virus spread. In addition, banana weevils, nematods and symptoms of Sigatoka Disease were observed at every survey site, confirming their widespread occurrence throughout both regions. integrated pest and disease management strategies to prevent the spread of BBTD and reduce the impact of major banana pests and diseases on production.
